Conveniently located at the crossroads of Interstate highways 494 and I-35W and adjacent to the Minneapolis/St. Paul International Airport, Bloomington is just minutes to downtown Minneapolis, St. Paul, central scenic lakes, parks and many beautiful Minnesota destinations.

The City of Bloomington has a population of about 85,000, making it the fifth-largest city in Minnesota. The Twin Cities metropolitan area has almost three million people in it, which places it at 15th in size nationally, according to the U.S. Census Bureau's figures for 2000.

Bloomington is Home of Mall of America, the largest shopping and entertainment complex in the United States, and the number one tourist attraction in Minnesota.

Bloomington is governed via a Council - Manager form of government. The City Council is comprised of six Councilmembers and the Mayor. The City Council's decision-making is aided by seven advisory commissions: Planning; Traffic and Transportation; Health; Parks, Arts and Recreation; Human Rights; Charter; and Merit Board.
