2012 Senshu Runner chosen Charlie Vollmer will be representing Bloomington and the BSCO at the 2012 Senshu Marathon. Charlie is a resident of Bloomington and is the son of board member Luminita Vollmer. The Senshu Marathon will be run on February 9th, 2012. 2011 Senshu Marathon Runner Results Following is the result of their races:
Bloomington Sister City Sends 2 Marathon Runners to Japan
Bloomington Sister City has selected Bloomington residents Darrell Christensen and Rachael Moench to compete in the 2011 Senshu International Marathon on Sunday, February 20. For over 10 years Bloomington Sister City and sister city Izumi City, Japan have exchanged runners to participate in the Twin Cities and Senshu marathons. This is one of several cultural exchanges that occur regularly between the two sister cities.
Darrell Christensen began his running career after retirement completing his first marathon in 2000. He has now completed 15 marathons. Rachael Moench recently competed in the Twin Cities Marathon and is eager to experience Japanese culture. Bloomington Sister Organization wishes both runners good luck in the 2011 Senshu International Marathon. Ms. Chikako Hatatani has completed the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon in a time of 4:25:19. Results of her race can be found on the official site for the marathon here. Ms. Hatatani is happy with her run which took her through the scenic urban cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. BSCO is hosting marathon runner, Chikako Hatatani (right) from Izumi City for the Medtronic Twin Cities Marathon. This exchange takes place annually with a runner from Izumi City participating in the Twin Cities marathon and Bloomington runners participating in the Senshu marathon in Japan. Ms. Hatatani has been running marathons and half marathons for the past 15 years. She is employed as a 2nd grade teacher in an elementary school near Izumi City. In addition to running, she also loves to travel and has been to several countries throughout the world including Australia, Russia and Canada . Her previous trips to the U.S. have included Los Angeles, San Francisco, Washington DC and Boston. During her stay in Bloomington, Ms. Hatatani is hosted by Darrell and Lynne Christensen. Darrell is also a marathon runner who was selected to represent Bloomington in the 2010 Senshu marathon race held last February but suffered an injury and was unable to compete. Darrell and his wife live in Bloomington and are both retired. Darrell was previously employed as a controller for Fairmont Railway Motors and Lynne worked at several part time jobs with her most favorite being in the gift shop of Cracker Barrell restaurant. Senshu Marathon 2010 The results are in: Sean Faulk ran an excellent race with a time of 3 hours, 13 mintues and 4 seconds (3:13:04). His place was 126 out of 1503 (male runners). Congratulations to Mr. Faulk.
Bloomington Sister City Organization sponsored Sean Faulk, a Bloomington high school Social Studies teacher to travel to Izumi to compete in the Senshu International Marathon on February 21, 2010. Mr. Faulk and his wife were guests of Izumi city and met city officials, tour sites, and participate in Japanese activities. Host families provided lodging for the couple.
